Robert J. Clay brass clockwork patent model"The Crying Baby", with original hang tag, inscribed No. 122707, Patented Janry 16th, 1872, Robt. F. Clay - toy for producing a crying sound and a string tag inscribed R. J. Clay - Speaking toy - received August 5th 1871 - issue, mechanism - 4 3/4" x 2 1/4". Clay's firm the Automatic Toy Company was purchased by Edward Ives in 1887.
